Prepare for a Computer
crash
Connect a
Wireless Laptop to the Internet
Recently, I tried to load Microsoft Office 2000 on a
laptop computer and encountered the following error message:
"Error 1305. Error reading from file (file name
varies).
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it".
I tried copying
the contents of the CD to my laptop's hard drive but that
didn't work either. I went to Microsoft.com in search of a
solution and learnt that the problem had to do with the
laptop's CD-ROM drive.
Unfortunately,
the solutions suggested by Microsoft were not helpful as they
appeared too technical. One of them had to do with modifying
the CD-ROM's cache settings (what in the world is that?).
I then left Microsoft.com and stumbled upon a great solution
via Google search. The solution is as follows:
-
Since you
may not be able to copy the contents of the CD to your
laptop's hard drive, copy it to a desktop computer
instead.
-
Connect your
laptop to the desktop computer via a network.
-
From your
laptop, find the folder containing the files copied in
step 1 and double click on setup.
-
Follow the
prompts and install the software.
This worked
perfectly for me in installing Microsoft Office 2000 on my
laptop. I assume it will work for other software. Please let
us know if it worked for you.
